Second-half surge lifts Tommies to 10th win in row

Sophomore Taylor Young scored 15 of her game-high 17 points in the second half as the first-place Tommies (10-1 overall, 8-0 MIAC) ran their win streak to 10 with a 49-41 comeback win over the Auggies (6-5, 3-5) in MIAC women's basketball play at Schoenecker Arena.

Sophomore Maggie Weiers added 18 points and eight rebounds for UST, which trailed 19-14 at halftime.

Brittany Zins and Nikki Borkhuis each scored nine for the Auggies.

St. Thomas made just 4-of-18 shots and had 16 turnovers in the first half. Young had three fouls by halftime then picked up her fourth foul early in the last half.

But UST's defense helped hold Augsburg to 23 percent shooting from the field and just 41 points on the afternoon. UST had a 40-27 rebounding edge and outscored the Auggies 20-8 at the foul line.

St. Thomas is allowing just 49.5 points a game during its 10-game win streak.

St. Thomas plays Wednesday at Carleton.
