More news about: Keuka

Keuka College's women's basketball team bounced back from just its second loss of the season to handle rival Gallaudet University 55-39 Saturday afternoon inside the Gallaudet Field House in Washington, D.C.

After suffering a setback to non-conference foe SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday night, the Storm (7-2, 5-0 North Eastern Athletic Conference) got 10 points and nine rebounds from junior Mariah Mouzon (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) and 17 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds and 2 assists from sophomore Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) to remain undefeated in NEAC action.

Britny Latham led Gallaudet (3-9, 1-5 NEAC) with 23 points and Joanna Rocha added eight points, but no other member of the Bison scored more than four points as Keuka's stifling defense limited Gallaudet to just 12-for-42 shooting (28.6 percent).

Freshman Erica Pendrak (Utica, NY/New York Mills) added nine points and a career-high eight assists while sophomore Casey Chamberlain (Perry, NY/Perry) added nine rebounds and six points and freshman Brittany Hadley (Jasper, NY/Jasper-Troupsburg) chipped in with seven points and six rebounds for the Storm.

Keuka's defense forced 24 turnovers and created 12 steals, led by Chamberlain (four steals).

The Storm started fast and led 6-0 after 4:02 of play before Gallaudet went on a 5-0 run. The teams traded baskets over the next 11 minutes, but Keuka only led 14-13 before using a 10-0 run late in the half to pull away. A jumper from Pendrak gave Keuka a 24-13 lead, and Keuka went into the halftime up 24-16.

A pesky Gallaudet squad cut the lead to 32-31 on a pair of free throws 6:31 into the second half, but Gravel buried a pair of '3s' and Chamberlain drained a '3' to put the Storm ahead 41-31 with 10:12 remaining. Gallaudet pulled within 47-39 with 3:41 remaining, but Keuka closed the game on an 8-0 run as Gravel again hit a pair of three-pointers sandwiched around a pair of free throws from Mouzon.

The Storm returns to action with a 2 p.m. game Sunday afternoon at NEAC rival Penn State-Harrisburg.
