The Baruch College Bearcats stayed undefeated by knocking off the Bombers of Ithaca College, 51-47, in an exciting defensive battle played on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena on Alumni Day.
The non-conference game was close with the two teams tied at 41 with 6:45 remaining. Ally Mnich connected on a jumper during her team's next possession for a two point Bomber lead of 43-41, but the Bearcats quickly responded with a long 3-pointer by Francess Henry to take over the lead at 44-43 with 5:51 left.
The Bearcats (6-0) would never relinquish that advantage and would later manage to take a six point lead (49-43) on a 3-pointer by Jessica Duleba as the shot clock expired with 3:32 left.
Ithaca from the Empire 8 Conference rallied back to cut the lead to just two points (49-47) with 2:37 left, but could not get any closer as defensive pressure and two clutch free throws by Krystie Laurey with 28 seconds left was enough to secure the 51-47 home victory.
Duleba led all scorers with 21 points (5-7 3fg), while Henry scored 13 points and three steals. Sheridan Taylor grabbed 13 rebounds and Imani Davidson contributed six rebounds off the bench. Iyana Abrams finished with five points, rebounds and assists each.
Mary Kate Tierney led the visitors from upstate New York with 15 points and seven rebounds.
The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday, December 11, with a 5:30 pm CUNYAC home contest against the Cardinals of York College.
