Newbury College women's basketball senior center Catherine O'Connell (Quincy, Mass.) is sixth in the NCAA Division III Record books with 56 career double-doubles – 27 behind leader Kathryn Stockbower of Swarthmore College with 83. The South Shore native, who currently has three double-doubles on the year and leads the Nighthawks with 77 points, is the only active student-athlete in the top 25 career leaders.
As a junior in 2011-12, O'Connell began the year off with a bang, rattling off 11 straight double-doubles for 10th amongst the consecutive double-double leaders. In the midst of a career year, she went on to record 10 more to lead the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with a career single-season high 21 double-doubles, tying her for 16th in the nation's season records. (Fellow NECC opponent, Elms sophomore Denisha Parks was one double-double behind O'Connell, with 20 on the season.)
Of her 56 career double-doubles, O'Connell has also notched three double, double-doubles including two in 2011-12 against NECC foes Elms College and Daniel Webster College. Against the Blazers on January 14th, the Nighthawk center registered 25 points and 22 rebounds in a 69-61, road loss while later in the year notched 25 points with 23 rebounds in a 60-59 home victory over the Eagles exactly a month later on February 14th.
