Newark., NJ - Junior guard Nicosia Henry (Bolingbrook, IL, Bolingbrook) set a new single-game record for steals and nearly posted a triple double as Montclair State continued its winning ways as the Red Hawks downed Rutgers-Newark,. 68-48 at the Golden Dome on Saturday evening.
Henry scored eight points, grabbed 15 rebounds and registered 12 steals as MSU, ranked No. 11 by D3Hoops.com and 13th by the WBCA, improved to 18-0 on the season, 10-0 in the NJAC as they swept the season series from the Scarlet Raiders (12-6, 6-4 NJAC).
Henry, who also dished out five assists, broke the MSU single-game mark for steals set by Shannon Shaffer with 11 versus Ramapo on January 14, 1992 and equaled by Lisa Villalta against Kean on February 8, 1997.
Sophomore forward Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ, Roselle Catholic) led the Red Hawks with 18 point and added four rebounds and five blocked shots. Senior forward Taylor Jeffers (Franklin Township, NJ, Franklin) added 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, January 23 as they host William Paterson at the Panzer Athletic Center with tipoff slated for 8:00 pm.
