Foglia Selected to D3Hoops All-Region First Team

             BLOOMINGTON, MN – Hartwick College's Maria Foglia (Rensselaer, NY/Catholic Central) has been honored by D3hoops.com. The junior guard was named to the organization's All-East Region First Team for the 2012-2013 season.

Foglia, who also was named the Empire 8 Player of the Year and to the conference's first team, finished as Hartwick's second leading scorer this season with an average of 14.3 points per game.
            She was joined on the first team by Geneseo senior guard Melissa Graham, Vassar junior guard Cydni Matsuoka, Plattsburgh State junior forward Kathleen Payne, and Rochester sophomore guard Ally Zywicki.            

Foglia led the Hawks in minutes played (1,027), three-point field-goal percentage (.376), free throws made (108), and she tied for a team-best 82 assists. She also ranked second in scoring, field goals made (135), three-pointers made (50), steals (47), and was third in rebounding (5.3/gm).

In the Empire 8 Conference, she ranked in the top five in 10 categories. She led the conference in free throws made, games played, games started, minutes played, and ranked second in three-point field-goal percentage, free-throw percentage, points scored, and minutes per game. She was also third in three-pointers made and fourth in assists.
           

On thirteen occasions this season, Foglia was the Hawks' top scorer. She reached double figures 22 times, including all five of Hartwick's Empire 8 and ECAC playoff games to wrap the season. She scored over 20 points six times, including a career-high of 25 points in victories over Randolph-Macon (12/17) and Stevens (1/22).   

This season, Foglia became the twelfth player in Hartwick history to break the 1,000 point barrier in a victory over Elmira. She is currently tenth in career scoring with 1,120 points. In addition, Foglia became only the third player to hit 50 or more three-pointers in a single season and third player to make over 100 three-pointers in her career. She ranks third in the category with 112 in three seasons at 'Wick.
           

Foglia helped the Hawks to the ECAC Division III Women's Metro Championship in early March. It marked the first championship of any kind for the Hawks since the 1999 season. Over three games, Foglia led the Hartwick in scoring with an average of 18.3 points per game. She also led 'Wick in three-pointers made (7), free throws made (16), free-throw percentage (.889), assists (12), and was tied for first in field goals made (16). For her efforts, she named the ECAC Division III Metro Most Outstanding Player.
