McDonough and Hassett’s double-doubles give Tigers an opening win

MACON, Ga. (Nov. 15, 2014) – Led by a career-high 15-point, 10-rebound double-double fromHaley McDonough, the Sewanee women's basketball team opened its season with 74-59 win over host Wesleyan, Saturday.

Saturday also marked the first career win at Sewanee for first-year head coach Tom Campbell.

McDonough finished 5-of-18 from the field and also added five assists and three steals. Additionally, senior forward Kayla Sewell grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds, scored eight points, and finished with 10 assists. 

Joining her fellow forwards, Casey Hassett also played well. Fresh off her volleyball season at Sewanee, Hassett scored a team-high 18 points and added 12 rebounds.

Guard Hannah McCormack also finished in double figures with 13 points.

Wesleyan was led by Diamond Hudson, who scored a game-high 28 points.

Sewanee will now return to the Domain for a 6:00 p.m. game, Tuesday against regional-rival Covenant. That contest will open a four-game homestand for Sewanee.
