BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Kevin Miles and Norman Allen II notched 17 points apiece in Tom Rose's first Landmark Conference contest as head coach of the blue and gold, but Goucher fell short to Moravian, 83-74.
Within the first eight minutes of play, Goucher fell behind — staring at a 13-point deficit. From there, though, the Gophers went on an 8-0 run, with six of the points coming off made free-throw attempts by Tre Galloway III and Allen II.
Moravian extended its lead to nine with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half but again, Goucher answered. A layup by Allen II with 6:31 on the clock capped a 10-4 run and gave the visiting team its first lead of the game, 22-21.
Oneil Holder and Jake McGee scored the Greyhounds' final seven points of the opening half to take the one-point, 34-33, lead into the locker room.
Early on in the second half, the Gophers (3-4, 0-1 Landmark) kept the home team in striking distance. That eventually paid off as Miles drove to the basket and got fouled as the ball went into the basket — tying the game up at 47 apiece. A made free-throw gave Goucher the 48-47 lead with 13:40 remaining in regulation.
The Greyhounds (3-3, 1-0 Landmark) took the 52-51 lead as Khalil Rhett pushed in a layup at the 12:51 mark. Moments later, Thomas Brim knocked down a 3-pointer to extend their lead to four.
A mid-range jumper by Galloway III with 9:31 showing on the clock cut Moravians' lead to three, but Goucher would get no closer than that.
Down the stretch, Jimmy Murray, Holder and McGee scored 14 of the Greyhounds' 18 final points, to pull away as the final horn sounded.
Landmark Conference action continues for Goucher as it travels to Madison, N.J. on Saturday to face off against Drew. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
