    LEXINGTON, Va. -- The madness that is March reared its head in a thrilling second round matchup during the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship on Saturday as the Christopher Newport Captains (24-5) trimmed a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to four with 1:21 remaining but were denied completing the comeback bid against undefeated and third-ranked Washington and Lee University (30-0). The Generals held off the feisty CNU squad for a 61-55 win and advances to the Round of 16 next weekend.

Ranking among the national leaders among active players in career games played with 109 coming in, Kellogg spent most of her career as a distributor, piling up over 250 assists. On Saturday, in game number 110 and her 96th career regular season contest, Kellogg took over the role as scorer and poured in a career-high 18 points to lead the Captains to a 60-48 win over Mary Washington on the road, capping the regular season with a 21-4 overall record.

The Captains fall to 15-4 overall this season after suffering the first regular season loss on the home floor since 2018.

The Captains fell to 12-3 overall after their first loss in six weeks came at Eckerd College in the neutral site tournament in Florida.

Playing in front of a raucous crowd of over 700 in the Freeman Center, CNU outscored the Eagles, 31-13, in the second quarter to open up a big halftime lead and never looked back.
