March 1, 2019 Comeback Attempt Falls Short as Saint Joseph’s Holds on to Defeat MIT, 68-61, in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament Nationally-ranked No. 12/14 Saint Joseph’s College of Maine drained all six of its free throws during the final 42 seconds to hold off MIT’s comeback attempt and record a 68-61 victory in the first round of the NCAA Division Women’s Basketball Tournament at Ithaca College on Friday night. Senior Dolly Yuan (San Jose, Calif.) tallied 12 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals for the Engineers.
February 23, 2019 MIT Defeats Springfield, 66-50, to Capture Second Straight NEWMAC Women’s Basketball Championship An 18-4 run during the second quarter gave No. 4 seeded MIT a lead it would not relinquish as it went on to defeat host and No. 3 seed Springfield College, 66-50, for its second straight NEWMAC Women’s Basketball Championship on Saturday. Sophomore Jocelyn Luizzi (Colchester, Conn.) powered the Engineers with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs, for her first career double-double. Senior Kara Holinski (Livonia, Mich.) was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player for performance throughout the week.
February 21, 2019 Thursday women: Finding hidden gems On a night when most ranked teams won playoff games by comfortable margins, there were still a few surprises. The lower seeds won in the NEWMAC and NJAC tournaments and Ohio Northern won again in the OAC.
February 21, 2019 No. 4 MIT Overpowers No. 1 Babson, 73-46, to Advance to NEWMAC Championship No. 4 seeded MIT knocked down 12 three-pointers, generated 28 points off of 27 Babson College turnovers, and limited the top-seeded Beavers to a 29.4 shooting performance as the Engineers recorded a 73-46 victory in the semifinals of the NEWMAC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Thursday night. One of four players to reach double-digits in scoring, senior Taylor V’Dovec (Blaine, Wash.) paced MIT with 14 points in 22 minutes of action. Payton Ouimette led Babson with 14 points while grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds.
February 19, 2019 No. 4 Seed MIT Advances to NEWMAC Semis With 76-58 Win Over No. 5 Emerson Led by four players in double figures and 23 forced turnovers, the No. 4 seeded MIT women’s basketball team defeated No. 5 Emerson College by a 76-58 final on Tuesday night in the first round of the NEWMAC Tournament.
February 16, 2019 MIT Rallies to Defeat Coast Guard, 73-65 An 8-0 run midway through the fourth quarter gave MIT a lead it would not relinquish as it went on to defeat the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 73-56, in NEWMAC women’s basketball action on Saturday. First-year Christina Anontakakis (Holmdel, N.J.) came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points for the Engineers while dishing out three assists.
